Bayern Munich is simply unstoppable, registering a 12th straight win in all competitions after beating Club Brugge 4-0 at home in the Champions League. The Bavarians have the chance to equal AC Milan’s
record for the best start to a season: 13 games won during the 1992/93 season.
Bayern travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach, who are unbelievably stuck to the bottom of the league with zero wins, going toe-to-toe with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. It’s only fitting that they’re going toe-to-toe with each other because the toe can be found at the foot, and that is where Gladbach and Wolves are in their respective leagues.
Team news
Before we discuss the potential lineup, we’ve got great news coming out of Bayern because Jamal Musiala is back training since his horrific injury in the Club World Cup. While Gladbach is of course too early for him, it’s massive news to hear that he’s back at the training ground. Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito are also nearing their comebacks.
Going back to the presumptive starting XI, Gladbach can’t offer any threat (boasting the joint-worst attack in the league and third-most goals conceded) so Bayern can afford a bit of leeway with the starting team. Jonas Urbig starts in goal, with a defense of Raphaël Guerreiro, Kim Min-jae, Dayot Upamecano, and Konrad Laimer. Aleksandar Pavlović is joined by Tom Bischof in the pivot; this pairing is highly sought after by some of the fans and this match looks like a safe time to do it. The attack will feature Luis Díaz, Nicolas Jackson, Lennart Karl (fresh off an impressive European outing, and it’s not a stag do), and Harry Kane.
Urbig is likely to start at the weekend because Bayern plays FC Koln in the DFB-Pokal, and he will play in that match owing to Manuel Neuer’s red card suspension.
Potential changes:
- Joshua Kimmich in midfield
- Michael Olise or Wisdom Mike gets subbed on for Kane, Jackson moves to the striker position, and Karl either stays wide or shifts to the middle.
