Football:
FSU is a 31.5 point favorite this weekend and Bill Connelly in his week zero predictions has FSU not covering it but fairly close to it. His model is predicting a 40-10 victory for the Seminoles:
FSU is not planning
on releasing a depth chart this year.
“Right now, guys know where they are. Every player wants more. That’s what it should be,” he said. “You should want to be the starter. You should want to be the guy that plays the most plays….but also, on the flip side of it, if we come out with a depth chart today that says, well, this is what it looks like. Throughout the course of the week, there’s ups, downs, whatever that might be. Somebody puts themselves in position, well, the best players are going to play.”
“Just, go have a great week. Whatever personnel groupings, if you’re a starter in, then you’re a starter. If you’re not, then continue to work and get better and put yourself in that position.”
It would be inaccurate to categorize that as a sign of confidence or lack thereof in this year’s ‘Noles; Mike Norvell is very excited for the first opportunity of the 2026 ‘Noles to show who they are.
My two cents on reading beneath the underneath is that he wants to publicly incite competition weekly while also keeping guys from checking and looking at the transfer portal just because there name is third on a depth chart at a position that plays the top-two guys for 75% of snaps.
FSU won’t have to have its top-two running backs plays 75% of the snaps this week if they don’t wan to. After missing the first two preseason scrimmages with an injury RB Tre Wisner is expected to be available this weekend.
With the return of game week Episode 1 of Inside Seminole Football is back:
After fewer wins in two years than the average FSU football season; FSU boosters and fans responded with $106 million in booster pledges. Now Michael Alford is saying it’s time for FSU football to reward that investment.
He won’t say what Norvell has to do to save his job, but he did say, “I’ll know it when I see it.”
“I’m not going to establish hypothetical benchmarks, but Mike (Norvell) and all of our coaches know our expectations and what our fans expect,” Alford said. “… When you have provided the resources to be successful, there’s more pressure and standards that you have to go out and compete on the field.”
Now, this is a little convenient considering Mike Alford was on record and demonstrably wrong about any major problem following some imaginary salary cap in the NIL era. He can’t absolve himself of blame forever but he is right about one thing: It’s time for Mike Norvell to put up or shut up.
Recruiting:
FSU QB commit Logan Flaherty went absolutely crazy last weekend:
Just get the ball into Sean Green’s hands, sheesh he’s a playmaker:
All Sports:
