It was a wild Tuesday afternoon in Tokyo, Japan as RIZIN Fighting Federation held RIZIN 54 inside the Toyota Arena Tokyo. 8 of the card’s 10 fights ended via finish, with only the main and co-main requiring the judges.
The main event of Rizin 54 featured 20 year old Kyoma Akimoto defeat former Rizin champion Kleber Koike via decision in a very impressive performance that showed why he’s one of top fighters in the promotion. In the co-main, slipping former Bellator champion Patchy Mix was booed on his
way to the cage after missing weight by 6.3 pounds. He was handed a 2 point deduction to start the fight, resulting in him losing his bout to Shoko Sato 28-27 on all three judges.
Mix had his best moment in the first round when he took Sato’s back and was hunting for a submission. Sato survived and would go on to take over the fight as Mix faded. This is Mix’s fourth fight in a row, fourth flat performance, and we doubt he’ll be back given the massive scale fail coming into this event.
Down the card, Ryoma “Jolly” Shishimoto and Naoki Tanaka both wowed the crowds with creative entrances but only Tanaka converted his walk-in to a win with a violent performance against Issa Hosokawa. “Jolly” got taken out of the ring on a stretcher, much to the delight of his many haters.
All in all it was an entertaining night of fights and another successful event for RIZIN, which is on a great streak and is killing it in Japan. Check out the results and watch full highlights from RIIZIN 54 below.
