The Texas Longhorns have bolstered head coach Steve Sarkisian’s coaching staff with the addition of Kwahn Drake as an assistant defensive line coach supporting Kenny Baker, according to a Tuesday report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz
and Drake’s Twitter bio. With the NCAA eliminating the limit on on-field coaches, college programs with the available resources can adopt an NFL-style model of assistant position coaches for roles typically described as a football analyst.
A New Orleans product, Drake got
his start in coaching as a student assistant at Nicholls State before working at the high school level in Louisiana for several years. Tulane gave Drake his first chance at college coaching as a graduate assistant, elevating him to the defensive line coach for the Green Wave in 2014.
After working as an offensive analyst under Mike Norvell at Memphis in 2016, Drake coached the defensive line at Eastern Illinois and Colorado in addition to stints at Kansas and Western Kentucky and in the UFL.
