One of the best players and Tennessee Vols in the NFL in recent memory has given back in a big way to his school. And now, UT is paying it back to him in kind.
The university unveiled on Thursday the “Alvin Kamara Family Lobby” in Neyland Stadium at Gate 19 to honor the former standout Tennessee running back.
As the video notes, the lobby is being dedicated not just to Kamara’s contributions and successes
at Tennessee, but also in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints. Danny White and Josh Heupel both make reference to a “generous gift” that Kamara made to the university, but the amount is undisclosed.
“With this gift, I hope it kind of sets a standard on what a student-athlete at the University of Tennessee can accomplish, with that Power T, being a VFL, that you have a responsibility to inspire and to, like I said, set a standard for those coming up under you,” Kamara said. “I don’t take it lightly, and I’m just looking forward to kind of making the impact and seeing what we can do. It’s all about evolution, so being able to help the university evolve in any way.”
Personally, and I’ve said this before, Kamara is the most talented running back I have seen at Tennessee since the days of Jamal Lewis and Travis Henry. Tennessee clearly means a lot to him, and it’s great that his name is now etched further onto Neyland Stadium (his image has been on the back of the jumbotron).
