Bayern Munich delivered a strong 2-0 win against Atlético Madrid, courtesy of another brilliant performance by Dayot Upamecano across the pitch. Speaking post-game, interim head coach Aaron Danks had nothing but praise for the French defender, highlighting his attitude and approach.
“I think Upamecano’s performances have been underrated for a long time. What he brings to the team, in terms of his character and personality, is fantastic. I think he’s a really difficult defender to play against. I see
every day in training, where we have top attackers going up against him, and he’s in the duels and the battles with them every single day, so when it comes to the match days, he’s no different,” said Danks (as captured via @iMiaSanMia). “I think his performance again tonight, along with Jonathan Tah and along with the rest of the back four and Manu in goal, was fantastic. It’s really difficult to pick out individuals, because I’ve thought tonight was very much about the collective group, about the spirit of this group in the face of adversity, to come together in a difficult ground and get a fantastic result. But for sure, I think Upamecano deserves credit for his performances. I think he’s been fantastic.”
Danks is certainly right to give Upamecano his flowers. He has been playing at an unbelievable level for a long time and deserves all the praise. What did you think of Upamecano’s performance tonight? Tell us in the comments below!
