Jonas Urbig is on the verge of fulfilling a childhood dream, but his first Germany appearance also represents another important step in a rapid rise that has been shaped by Bayern Munich.
The goalkeeper heads into his international debut with valuable experience gained at one of Europe’s biggest clubs. Urbig has already played more than 30 matches for Bayern Munich across the Bundesliga, Champions League, and DFB-Pokal, giving him exposure to the pressure and expectations that come with being a No.1-level
goalkeeper. That experience has helped him develop both his confidence and his rhythm on the biggest stages.
Now, those lessons from Bayern Munich will be put to the test with Germany. Urbig will make his first appearance for the national team in his home stadium, adding an especially personal dimension to an already significant moment.
“It’s a big dream come true to play my first national team game here in my home stadium,” Urbig told Sportschau (via @iMiaSanMia). “It’s a big moment I’m looking forward to. You dream of that as a kid, so it’s very, very nice to be able to fulfill it. I have a good rhythm. I played over 30 games for FC Bayern in the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB-Pokal. We’ve now had three intensive days together to develop a chemistry and prepare for this game, and we’re ready.”
As Urbig noted, Germany has used its three days together to build chemistry and prepare intensively for the match. The Bayern Munich goalkeeper clealry believes the squad is ready.
