Paige received the biggest pop of WrestleMania Saturday when she made her surprise return to WWE and won the women’s tag team championship (with her tag team partner Brie Bella).
In a new interview on What’s Your Story? With Steph McMahon, Paige was asked about what her goals are now that she’s back in WWE. The 33-year-old star said she plans to make the most of what might be her final run in pro wrestling, and that includes doing all the gimmick matches that weren’t around for the women’s division
during her last run in the company, prior to 2018.
“I came in this time with a mindset where I just want to be happy and have fun, because I don’t think I’m gonna be wrestling after this run. I want to just enjoy my time that I have here, embrace absolutely everything, just enjoy the journey. That’s all I care about. But I do want to finally be able to be in the Royal Rumble that I got to not be a part of, and do the Elimination Chambers, and do all these stipulation matches that were not around…
I had to be backstage in Gorilla when the [women’s] Royal Rumble just started, and no one knew I was retired by that point. And so I just sat there and I was just sad. It was bittersweet. I was happy that the girls finally got this big match that we didn’t have before. But I was sad because I wasn’t a part of it, and I didn’t know if I was ever gonna be a part of it. And so to have this moment where I’m back in WWE, my neck is good, I’m wrestling again, and there [are] opportunities for me to be a part of these stipulation matches…I’m really excited for the next couple of years.”
Paige and McMahon also had this exchange about the trouble that she will inevitably bring to WWE.
Paige: “I don’t know what I’m gonna get myself into, but not trouble.”
McMahon: “Well, maybe the right kind of trouble.”
Paige: “Yeah, the good kind of trouble…”
McMahon: “I think it’s impossible for you to not get into trouble.”
Paige: “I know, I’m a pain in the ass.”
