The best ability is availability, as they often say. Of course, they say a lot of things and just because they say it loud and they say it often, it doesn’t always make it true. But in this case, they are
not completely wrong.
Roméo Lavia’s time at Chelsea has been injury-hit, to say the least, and he looks set to miss another significant chunk of time after picking up an(other) injury in last night’s game.
On the plus side, it’s not another hamstring. But that’s about where the good not-bad news end.
“We feel very ashamed, especially for him, because he’s not able to be fit for a long, long period. It’s not a recurrence of his hamstring problem; it looks like a quad injury. We’ll need to assess him further, but it doesn’t look good.”
-Enzo Maresca; source: Yahoo!
I’m guessing Maresca meant “sorry” instead of “ashamed”, but the sentiment is one of pity, sorrow, and disappointment.
Lavia was playing in just his 30th game, and making only his 19th start in all competitions since joining Chelsea almost two and a half years ago. He may have talent in abundance, but if we can’t use that talent, then what’s the point. (Of course, he is still just 21, and we have the resources to wait for him to get over his injury-proneness … if he can.)
