With all the infield rumors swirling and the Red Sox third base situation thrown in flux in the aftermath of Alex Bregman signing with the Cubs, Marcello Mayer’s role grows more interesting. He’s never played more than 91 games in a season, but boy does he look the part defensively whether you play him at short, second, or third.
So it raises the question: is there a position you’d rather see Marcelo Mayer at defensively going forward? Or is his greatest value to the team right now his versatility
in being able to move all over the infield? The second option, which feels like what’s happening, ultimately gives the front office more latitude in their quest for a right-handed bat, but before that happens, I’m curious what the community thinks in terms of where he plays best, even through just the eye test.
So feel free to talk about this, the Ranger Suarez signing, the free agent rumors, the trade rumors, or whatever else you’d like, and as always, be good to one another.
