The chase is over — Bayern Munich has set a new standard in the Bundesliga for goal scoring.
A free kick from Joshua Kimmich was seemingly flicked away by a St. Pauli defender, but it landed on the foot of Leon Goretzka for an excellent volley goal in the 53rd minute to make it 2-0 and set a new standard for Bundesliga scoring.
The was Bayern Munich’s 102nd tally of the season. It was an incredible goal for Goretzka, who hammered home his shot with splendid accuracy:
To really put a stamp on things, Michael Olise added another goal just one minute later to make it 3-0.
In the 9th minute against St. Pauli, Bayern Munich right-back Konrad Laimer lofted a beautiful, diagonal cross toward the back post and his effort would be rewarded. Attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala made a perfect run into the ball and headed it by St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj for an early 1-0 lead and the squad’s 101st goal, which tied the record.
There is still plenty of time to play in this match and St. Pauli, while rattled after the goal, has brought some serious energy to the pitch. If you want to join in on the discussion of the game, check out our Gamethread / Liver Blog, which you can find here.
