Newcastle United may not be finished cashing in on some of their higher-profile offensive players this summer, despite already agreeing on the sale of starting winger and England international Anthony Gordon to Barcelona.
According to Football Insider, Harvey Barnes could also be sold for the right price if interest from Premier League and European clubs develops into formal offers during the upcoming transfer window.
Barnes appeared set to become Newcastle’s first-choice option on the left wing following
Gordon’s departure, turning him into one of the biggest winners of the first Magpies’ move of the offseason.
The 28-year-old ended the season strongly after breaking into Eddie Howe’s starting lineup and finished the campaign with 16 goals and six assists in 57 appearances.
Barnes’ form during the closing months reportedly strengthened his market value and is seemingly attracting attention from clubs monitoring his situation. According to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, Newcastle could be tempted to sell Barnes if a significant bid arrives throughout the summer.
“Harvey Barnes could go either way at Newcastle,” Brown told Football Insider. “He came into the team when Gordon dropped out near the end of the season and did a very good job replacing him. For Newcastle, that could suggest they don’t have to go and spend money on a replacement, but it also could mean clubs are willing to pay more for him.”
Brown added that Newcastle could use the money from Gordon and Barnes’ sales (the combined figure should easily clear €100 milllion, given Barnes’ approximate market value) to fund an even broader-than-expected squad rebuild after a disappointing season that ended with a 12th-place Premier League finish.
“There is a lot of interest in Barnes,” Brown said. “Having showed he can step up for Newcastle, they might be ready to make a move, and I think a big offer could tempt Newcastle to sell.”
Barnes is the lone natural left winger in Newcastle’s roster for the 2026-27 season, with Joelinton, Anthony Elanga, and Jacob Murphy able to play makeshift minutes at the position.
