Well. Last night’s game was a disappointment. Trevor Rogers was outstanding but the Orioles could not get the job done on offense and the game went to extra innings. All hell broke loose in the 10th inning and when the dust cleared, the Orioles had lost 7-6. I don’t want to see a repeat of that tonight.
Brandon Young will be on the mound for the Orioles, coming off a seven-inning, one-run effort against the Astros. He remains the steadiest member of the rotation. In half of his 16 starts, Young has
allowed two or fewer runs. He has allowed four runs just twice and never more than that.
The Braves are a good baseball team and it shows. Last night, their defense was the difference between an Orioles win and the extra-innings loss. As an Orioles fan, I am jealous. Their starting pitcher, Bryce Elder, has had a few clunkers as of late, but is having a pretty good season overall.
I’m surprised to see Colton Cowser out of the lineup tonight. He was hitless last night but had a good approach at the plate and worked three walks. His defense in center is the best on the team. Against a righty pitcher, I expected to see him. Instead, Leody Taveras will be in center. Tyler O’Neill takes Cowser’s spot in the lineup at DH. Taylor Ward DH’d, he is back in left field tonight, with Dylan Beavers shifted to right. O’Neill has been hot at the plate lately, so hopefully that continues. But there is no outfield defensive alignment without Cowser that makes me comfortable.
