The San Francisco 49ers got some good news on the injury front this week, as Mykel Williams was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) List after a good week of practice.
To accommodate Williams, the 49ers made a number of roster moves. They initially released Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, who had played in all four games so far this season. Then, they re-signed Okoronkwo to the practice squad and elevated him as well for Sunday’s game.
Now, with their defensive line health improving, the 49ers
made one more move on Saturday: releasing Matt Judon.
Judon, 34, signed with the 49ers practice squad on September 29th and played for the 49ers in Week 4. He suited up for 14 defensive snaps after being elevated from the practice squad, recording one tackle.
The 49ers could also potentially get some reinforcements next week. Nick Bosa and James Thompson Jr. are two defensive linemen who did not practice this week, but could potentially get into the mix ahead of the Washington Commanders game next Monday.
But for now, San Francisco will have Williams, Keion White, Osa Odighizuwa, Gracen Halton, Okoronkwo, Romello Height, Sebastian Valdez, and Khalid Kareem as options for Sunday on the defensive line.
