What is the story about?
It
was an exhibition game, so nothing to get too high or too low about. One week until real basketball starts.
Thoughts:
- South Carolina is projected to finish last in the SEC by their media voters, and KenPom and Bart Torvik.
- They looked like the better team for much of the game
- The Pack had no answer for guards Ellis and Johnson
- Freshman Eli Ellis went for 23 /5. He shot 5-7 from 3PT
- Meechie Johnson went for 20 with 4 assists. He shot 8-16 / 3-9
- NC State starting lineup – Williams, McNeil, Copeland, Arceneaux, Lubin
- First Sub – Tre Holloman
- Second Sub – Matt Able
- Third Sub – Musa Sagnia
- Fourth Sub – Jerry Deng
- Paul McNeil hit the first and last Wolfpack buckets, both 3PT shots – great confidence builder
- He was 3/8 from 3PT (37.5%)
- Terrence Arceneaux picked up his second foul early and sat much of the first half. The team was better with him on the floor
- Interestingly, Wolfpack radio named him the player of the game even though he led in no statistical category
- On a couple of plays he jumped over everyone to get a rebound
- Quadir Copeland is my new favorite player
- Started at point guard
- At one point, while he was on the bench, he stood up and was coaching the team
- At another point, while on the floor, he turned to the crowd and encouraged volume
- Early in the second half, he dominated the game for a few possessions
- During a timeout huddle you could see him yelling and waving his arms
- Ven-Allen Lubin and Darrion Williams were outstanding, with the exception of turnovers. They are going to lead the team in minutes, points, and rebounds most nights.
- Tre Holloman – I thought he was the better point guard in this particular game. Both he and ‘Q’ are the team high energy guys and the Pack is in excellent hands with either running point.
- Matt Able – USC had excellent guards and Matt struggled to keep up with them.
- He was 1-4 from the field and 0-2 from 3PT
