The Michigan Wolverines continue to host recruits this spring in an attempt to continue the momentum they have going in the 2027 class. A few commitments over the last couple weeks kicked off what’s surely to come in the weeks and months ahead as spring visits continue and official visit season draws nearer.
In today’s edition of the Recruiting Roundup, we’ll detail how a few of the latest visitors enjoyed their time in Ann Arbor, including one that visited for the first time this past weekend.
5-star has good first visit to Michigan
Albert
Simien hasn’t been discussed ‘round these parts much, if at all, but there’s a first time for everything. At 6-foot-3 and 275 pounds, the Louisiana native is a five-star recruit and the No. 12 overall player on the Rivals Industry Ranking in the 2027 class. He was offered by the old staff and is now being recruited by new offensive line coach Jim Harding.
Simien took a trip to Michigan last weekend and it was “wonderful!!!” according to On3’s Ethan McDowell ($). This visit provided Simien with “lots of good information,” per McDowell, and now Michigan is in the running to lock in an official visit with him.
With three-star Tristan Dare decommitting from the Wolverines last week, Harding and company will be looking at numerous recruits to try and fill that gap. You can’t do much better than Simien, at least as far as the rankings are concerned.
Other contenders in his recruitment include Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, Notre Dame, Nebraska and more.
Top WR target reacts to weekend trip
Quentin Burrell is one of Michigan’s top targets overall regardless of position. The four-star wide receiver and top-100 overall prospect has been to Ann Arbor on a handful of occasions at this point, and he was on campus last weekend for yet another unofficial visit.
Speaking with Rivals’ Greg Smith ($), Burrell detailed his latest trip to Michigan.
“The visit was great,” Burrell said. “It really stood out how close the coaching staff is and the discipline and togetherness of the team.”
Speaking of the coaching staff, Burrell had good things to say about head coach Kyle Whittingham, calling him “honest and very open,” as well as “easy to talk to.” Burrell was also impressed with what he was seeing on the practice field.
“They put the ball in the air and move their guys around,” Burrell said. They try to get their guys the ball to make plays. I look forward to see how they look at end of spring.”
Moving forward, Burrell could be back for the spring game in a couple weeks, but his next time in Ann Arbor very well could be on his official visit this summer. Notre Dame and Arizona State are the two main competitors in Michigan’s way in this recruitment.
4-star RB has Michigan at the top of the list following visit
Another recruit that visited last week is 2027 four-star running back Tyson Robinson. The 5-foot-9, 195-pound Mississippi native told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong ($) that Michigan is at the top of his list following the trip.
“I had a great experience there,” Robinson said. “The opportunities I would have there are elite and are life-changing things and playing is gonna be big and the whole staff made me feel comfortable.
“I loved it.”
Robinson enjoyed his visit so much that he is already planning on visiting again this week.
“Huge,” Robinson said of the ramifications from this trip. “Just love it up there.”
Tony Alford has yet to get a running back to commit to the Wolverines in this class, but it sounds like he made a major move with Robinson.
