The Messi vs. Ronaldo debate is among the most longstanding ones in football history.
It has divided fans over decades, and while both players have had insane careers, the question of “who is better?” keeps getting asked at every opportunity. While I personally see it as short-sighted, perhaps even a gross oversimplification, there are many who would pick one over the other in a heartbeat.
That is exactly what Bayern’s young midfielder Tom Bischof seems to have done. When asked the question (as captured
by @iMiaSanMia), Bischof responded without hesitation, “Messi! He is complete; he can decide a game on his own.”
And that sums up his perspective.
BFW Analysis
While Messi is a complete player who has certainly decided games on his own, it certainly isn’t a criterion where Ronaldo is found lacking either. Ronaldo is called Mr. Champions League for a reason and has always risen to the occasion in Europe’s most prestigious club competition. So while this may not be the most precise argument for why Messi might be better, there could be some inherent bias, with Tom playing primarily as a central midfielder, and his style therefore resembling Messi’s more.
There is no denying that the two are great in their own right and that we may never be able to see footballers with a similar gravitas and accolade list ever again.
