Liverpool have announced on Monday the signing of center-back Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona.
The two clubs agreed the deal in a surprise move on Friday and things quickly accelerated over the weekend, with Araujo traveling to Liverpool, passing his medical and signing his contract in just over 24 hours.
According to multiple reports, Liverpool have included a €55 million buy option that could be activated next summer if the Uruguayan has a great season at Anfield
for new manager Andoni Iraola.
Barça were not planning to part ways with Araujo but the defender made the decision to accept Liverpool’s proposal after a discussion with Hansi Flick in which the coach made it clear Araujo would have a minor role in the team this season.
Araujo now gets a chance to fight for a starting spot right away, and has a real chance to make an impact in a fast-paced, physical league like the Premier League playing for a title contender.
Good luck at Anfield, Ronald!
