Following Wednesday’s 6-3 victory over LASK, Liverpool FC defender Kostas Tsimikas posted an emotional tribute after being given the chance to captain the team over last season’s Austrian double champions.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker would have taken on the captain’s armband had it been a Premier League match, but due to UEFA rules saying only the captain is allowed to speak to the referee on the pitch the armband instead had to be given to an outfield player and so Kostas got his chance to take on the captaincy
instead.
Representing my dream club , on a champions league night, as a captain, with a win and some
assists serving?!
Little Kostas , we made it happen kid 🫠
Never stop dreaming and believing guys.
Dreams can come true. I made some of mine come true today and it feels great.
I am so grateful. 🙏🏻
As for how the game played out for him, there were two assists for Kostas, a player who has always spoken loudly about his pride in playing for the club and fully embraced the moniker of the team’s “Greek Scouser.”
Having been handed an unexpected second chance at the club after heading off last season to Roma on loan and with most expecting him to move on permanently this season, he seems really grateful despite being clear second choice to Milos Kerkez—and we do love to see any player who embraces simply having the chance to play for the Reds even if it’s in a small role.
