came off the bench to grab two assists on Wednesday as England came from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 at World Cup 2026.The winger then spoke about his role after the match and explained why he generally hates being a substitute and having to watch the game from the sidelines.
“To be honest when I’m a substitute I’m a nervous wreck. When I’m on the pitch, I’m calm but when I’m a sub I don’t handle it very well. I was desperate to get on, I felt I could change the game.,”
he told reporters.
“We train hard and we play hard. I just try to make an impact. I tried to be direct. I knew they’d be tired so I just tried to be direct, tried to make them more tired and give the ball to Harry.”
Gordon will now hope his assists mean that he can start England’s next game against Mexico in the last 16 of World Cup 2026.
