Well, the cat is out of the bag.
Jürgen Klopp confirmed that he is, indeed, in talks with the DFB over the German national team head coach position.
“Things moved pretty quickly. Julian stepped down. The DFB are looking for a successor. And they’re talking to me. There will have to be intensive discussions, because the problems we are currently facing are, of course, not down to Julian Nagelsmann alone. Julian is an exceptional coach, and he will prove that many more times throughout his managerial
career,” Klopp said during an appearance on MagentaTV (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “That is why we simply have to wait and see how those discussions unfold. I also need to have discussions with my employer, Oliver Mintzlaff. I know that German football is something he cares deeply about, and therefore he is very open to having these conversations.”
It does not seem like this will be a hard negotiation. If Klopp wants the gig — and the numbers and power meet what he desires — Klopp will get the job.
From there, the real work will begin and there will be plenty for Klopp to dive into.
“German football is at a crossroads. We now have to make fundamental changes. Whether that ultimately ends up being me, or whoever it may be, does not change the fact that these changes are necessary,” said Klopp. “I’m more than recharged now. So I’m ready. It’s a very, very attractive task, a very important task. I can’t help but say that it does interest me.”
