The Pittsburgh Steelers offense dealt with two injuries to important starters on Sunday against the Patriots that could linger into this week.
Left tackle Troy Fautanu worked through an ankle injury this week that kept him out of practice Wednesday and a limited participant on Thursday. Following the game in New England, Fautanu was seen in a walking boot on his left foot, per Chris Halicke of DK Pittsburgh Sports. It may be a precautionary measure, as Fautanu played every snap Sunday, even after
Aaron Rodgers was pulled.
It hasn’t been an easy transition for Fautanu, who played the first two seasons of his NFL career on the right side. Fautanu played left tackle in college but is experiencing his first in-game snaps at left.
Running back Rico Dowdle left the first half on a cart due to a toe injury. He carried the ball seven times for 22 yards and briefly returned in the second half before being ruled out for the game. Dowdle is only averaging 2.7 yards per carry through his first two games with the Steelers after back-to-back 1000-yard seasons in Carolina.
We’ll find out more details on the status of both heading into Week 3 when the Steelers take the practice field on Wednesday.
