Maryland softball emerged victorious Wednesday over George Washington in extra innings, 11-7, thanks to third baseman Matti Benson’s heroics.
Benson’s walk-off grand slam gave her a 7-RBI afternoon — that mark tied the program’s single-game RBI record. She totaled four hits in the contest overall, notching another homer in the fifth, and a hit in both the third and seventh innings.
Mariah Penta also had a clutch performance, tying the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning and delivering on
a sacrifice fly in the 10th to knot the game and pave the way for Benson’s grand slam.
Elisa Wiegand started on the mound for the Terps, collecting five strikeouts and earning four runs.
