The Detroit Tigers have now won five straight after holding on for a 6-5 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Center on Monday night. The good guys were no-hit through six innings but mounted two late-inning comebacks to seize Game 1 of the three-game series.
Toeing the rubber for the Motor City Kitties in Game 2 is right-hander Drew Anderson, who will make his eighth start since permanently joining the rotation. The 32-year-old has posted a healthy 2.97 ERA but a concerning 5.05 FIP over
his last 33 1/3 innings, allowing 28 hits (five home runs) and 16 walks while striking out 27, earning a pair of losses in the process.
Anderson has seen Toronto once this season in relief on May 15, tossing four frames of shutout ball on one lonely hit and a strikeout in an eventual 3-2 victory for the good guys.
For the Blue Jays, fellow righty Braydon Fisher will get the start for the 10th time this season. The 26-year-old will presumably be serving in the opener role, as he has not thrown more than two innings in an outing all summer.
So far this month, Fisher has put up a 1.93 ERA and 4.18 FIP over six appearances, allowing four hits (one home run) and two walks while striking out seven and uncorking a wild pitch across 4 2/3 innings of work.
