Bayern Munich required a stoppage time header from Harry Kane to squeeze by 3. Liga side SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday.
Despite statistical dominance on the field, Bayern saw a 2-0 lead evaporate in an instant and were staring down the barrel of extra time before that late moment of magic. Just another day in the German cup.
“Sometimes it’s like that in football,” said Bayern midfielder/defender Konrad Laimer (as captured via @iMiaSanMia). “You have enough chances
to go 3-0, 4-0, and then sometimes all you need is a moment like that.
“It’s the first round of the cup, and it’s never easy. Things like that can happen. In the end, all that matters is that you advance. When you decide games so late, it’s also a quality.”
The Bavarians were lucky enough to be able to say so on this occasion — though they could certainly stand to be more clinical. Now, it’s a short turnaround to a weekend Bundesliga road test against FC Augsburg.
Bayern Munich traveled to Frankfurt to take on SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the DFB-Pokal.
The home side was game and did give Bayern Munich a battle. Sure, the Bavarians were deeper, quicker, stronger, and better, but the 3.Liga side was not going to go down easy in what was an entertaining match. Bayern Munich ultimately won 3-2.
