It’s no secret that Manuel Neuer’s time with Bayern Munich and as a professional footballer will be concluding in the near future. The 40-year-old refuted claims of his retiring at the end of 2026/27. He did, however, reveal in an interview with Sport1 (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia) what factors he will consider when it comes to deciding whether he should continue playing or not.
“First and foremost, it’s about how I feel physically,” Neuer said. “But when you’ve been a professional footballer
for over 20 years, it’s not always just the physical side, but also the stress of always having to be there and playing an important role in the team. I’m looking forward to this season, will give everything as always, and then we’ll see what happens – whether to continue or put an end to it.”
Neuer is not the same as he was before his big injuries, and with Jonas Urbig ready to take over when he calls time on his career, his eventual decision in 2027 should be well-founded.
