Bayern Munich’s front office has gone through significant transition over the past couple of years, and the appointments of Max Eberl and Christoph Freund were meant to stabilize both squad planning and long-term strategy. Now, with the club navigating a pivotal period on and off the pitch, the question arises: should Bayern double down on this leadership duo?
On one hand, there are clear positives. Freund has built a reputation as one of Europe’s sharpest talent identifiers, dating back to his success
with Red Bull Salzburg. His influence can already be seen in Bayern’s recruitment approach—leaning slightly younger, more dynamic, and more sustainable compared to the short-term fixes of previous windows. Eberl, meanwhile, brings Bundesliga experience and a strong track record from Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he consistently punched above the club’s weight. Together, they offer a blend of scouting acumen and structural leadership that Bayern has arguably lacked since the peak years of its previous board.
Questions linger about whether the club has truly found a cohesive sporting vision or if it’s still reacting to immediate pressures — especially with the constant expectation to compete for the Champions League every season.
Another factor to consider is stability. Bayern Munich has seen a revolving door of executives and coaches in recent years, and extending Eberl and Freund could signal a commitment to continuity. That kind of stability is often what allows elite clubs to build sustained success rather than chasing quick fixes.
Ultimately, the decision may come down to trust in the process. If Bayern’s leadership believes that Eberl and Freund are laying the groundwork for a stronger future—even if the short-term results aren’t perfect—then extensions make sense. If not, the club risks resetting once again.
So, what do you think? Should Bayern Munich stick with Eberl and Freund for the long haul, or do you need to see what happens this summer? Tell us in the comments below!
