Liverpool are considering a decisive move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, but a deal will depend on the Reds’ finding a destination for one of their current forwards.
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool will only attempt a Gordon transfer if they can sell Cody Gakpo before moving for the Magpies winger and former Liverpool Academy player.
The report states that Gakpo has already been offered to clubs in the Premier League and across Europe by intermediaries as Liverpool assess the potential
interest in the Netherlands international and how much of his sale would help the club finance the Gordon transfer.
Gakpo’s potential exit is described as the key trigger for a wider reshuffle in Liverpool’s attacking ranks, including snatching Gordon from Tyneside, as they already tried to do in past transfer windows.
“Liverpool could replace Cody Gakpo with Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon in the summer,” the report says.
Newcastle, obviously, have made clear they do not wish to sell the 25-year-old or any other star player, and according to TEAMtalk, Gordon’s current contract with the Magpies does not include a release clause, meaning any transfer would be on Newcastle’s terms. You know how that ended with the not-for-sale Alexander Isak.
No formal bid has been submitted, and Newcastle’s position remains that Gordon is not for sale. Gordon, a born-and-raised Scouser, might have the final say on whether or not he wants to move on from living in Tyneside and move back home as soon as this summer.
