Surely, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Jonas Urbig would have rather been selected for a spot with the German national team as it prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America than being used as a training goalkeeper to help the squad. during the tournament.
However, Urbig’s strong season and his good attitude have put him in focus of Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann, who lauded the young goalkeeper.
“We wanted to have a fourth goalkeeper available for training, he did very well at Bayern and also
in training with us. He gives good energy to the team,” Nagelsmann said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Urbig will train with the squad and support fellow goalkeepers Manuel Neuer, Oliver Baumann, and Alexander Nübel. To highlight Bayern Munich’s embarrassment of riches at the position, Urbig, Neuer, and Nübel are all roster members for the German Rekordmeister. Nübel has spent the last three seasons on loan with VfB Stuttgart, but will return briefly this summer before being loaned away again or being sold outright.
