Fresh off her stint as Alba Fyre in WWE, Kay Lee Ray made her surprise return to the indies last week in the UK for the Will Ospreay-produced promotion Pro Wrestling EVE.
Earlier this week, Ray clarified that she technically wasn’t released by WWE during their most recent round of roster cuts. Her WWE contract expired, so she wasn’t subject to the 90-day no compete clause. However, her explanation didn’t make it clear if it was her choice to not renew her WWE deal, or if the promotion didn’t offer
her a new contract.
In an interview today on Busted Open, she clarified that WWE told her they were not interested in continuing their relationship, which was totally fine by her.
“I had been thinking for a while if I wanted to re-sign or not. As I said before, I’ve been with WWE for a long time, so I at least wanted to give them the courtesy of having that conversation. And I knew my contract was up. And I think it was three weeks by the time I spoke to them, maybe four. And it was at Mania. So I was like, look, I know we’re really, really busy right now. I’m not asking to have that conversation now, but can we have that possibly soon?
And then unfortunately, I got the phone call the next week saying that they didn’t want to be offering me anything. So on that, to me, I was like, cool, this was the decision I was already heading towards anyway, if that’s the way we want to go, that’s fine. So, yeah, it wasn’t a surprise to me.”
Later in the interview, Kay Lee Ray named AEW stars Mercedes Mone, Willow Nightingale, and Kris Statlander as dream opponents that she would love to get in the ring with now that she is a free agent. When Bully Ray pointed out that’s a lot of AEW stars on her list of dream opponents, she laughed.
Do you think it’s inevitable that Kay Lee Ray will officially be All Elite at some point in 2026? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
