For the first time since 1993, the Toronto Blue Jays are on the cusp of a World Series title. After taking two of three in Los Angeles, the Blue Jays now have the chance to clinch the title with a victory
at home in Game 6 of the series.
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ offense has gone quiet, with the obvious exception of Shohei Ohtani. However, don’t count them out for this game because they are hoping for another incredible outing from Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Japanese ace has been nothing short of excellent this postseason, going 3-1 with a 1.57 ERA. In his last two starts, Yamamoto has fired complete games, allowing just two runs on seven hits with 15 strikeouts against just one walk. He has been a workhorse and with the state of the Dodgers’ bullpen, it’s within the realm of possibility he deals another nine innings. In his last start during Game 2, Yamamoto allowed just one run on four hits in his complete game victory striking out eight with no walks.
The Blue Jays are hoping that Colorado product Kevin Gausman has the right stuff to handle the Dodgers once again. Gausman was on the losing end of his duel with Yamamoto last time around, but he still had a great start in Game 2. He went 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits, including two home runs. He managed six strikeouts against no walks. Gausman has been incredibly consistent in the postseason, working at least five innings in each of his starts and limiting damage. Those three runs in his last start were the most he had given up in an outing in the playoffs this year. Avoiding walks was crucial his last time out, and he’ll need to continue that trend and not give the Dodgers lineup an inch of help as the Blue Jays try to end the series.
