Despite alternating wins and losses to open the season, the Dallas Cowboys opened the week as heavy favoriteswith a short time to prepare for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Cowboys are hoping to get some key players back this week and then get a mini-bye week before a Sunday night matchup against the Green Bay Packers. That said, the injuries impacting the Buccaneers have also tipped the scales in favor of the Cowboys.
After today’s practice, here is the state of both teams.
Cornerback Cobie Durant (hamstring) did not practice as expected. Durant is believed to be unavailable for at least a few weeks. Also, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown did not practice again today with the team. Initially, there was hope that Overshown would be back Thursday, but given where he is with his health, and the time off in between, the team may hold off against the Buccaneers.
Pro Bowl guard Tyler Smith was not upgraded today to a full participant but optimism remains high that he’ll be coming back from the thumb injury that landed him on injured reserve to start the season.
For the Buccaneers, Antoine Winfield Jr. (rib) did not practice today, and the team expects him to be out this week. Also, starting quarterback Baker Mayfield (thumb) didn’t practice once again, foreshadowing what will be his second consecutive missed start. Meanwhile, Reuben Bain (groin/shoulder) was a full participant again today and suffered no setbacks.
