We have been saying the same thing for almost a month now, but the Dallas Cowboys are heading into a must win game in week nine with the Indianapolis Colts.
This is a unique matchup for the Cowboys due to the Colts practically punting on their season and moving on to 2027. In recent weeks, the Colts have traded away two of the best players on their roster in DeForest Buckner and Queneton Nelson, and their star running back Jonathan Taylor has dominated trade rumors over the last two weeks.
With the
Colts not focusing on winning football games right now, and the Cowboys desperately needing a win, one of the biggest matchups in this game should be a massive mismatch favoring the Cowboys.
Early on in the season, it was fair to say Quinnen Williams was a bit disappointing. But over the last month or so, Williams has really turned it on and has been showing the dominant player we all expected to see in 2026. Since week five, Williams has recorded four sacks, three run stuffs, and 14 tackles. Williams has an intriguing matchup coming up in week nine against a depleted Colts offensive line.
The interior of the Colts offensive line took a big blow when Quenton Nelson was traded to the Seattle Seahawks. Taking his place at left guard was rookie fourth-round pick Jalen Farmer, who struggled mightily in his first start of the season in week eight. Farmer allowed three pressures, one hurry, and two QB hits against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Colts center has struggled this season too. Tanor Bortolini has allowed multiple pressures in every game this season except for two and has drawn six flags in the last four games. The Colts right guard, Matt Goncalves, has had a solid season so far for the Colts, but he is also a player Williams should be able to take advantage of as well in the running and passing game. Goncalves has allowed multiple pressures in the last two weeks.
This is an ideal matchup for Quinnen Williams who has been heating up here lately. Williams has registered 15 pressures and four sacks in the last three weeks, and this matchup should be one of the more favorable matchups he will see this season. Williams will need help from Kenny Clark and Otito Ogbonnia to keep some of the focus off of him, but this should be a matchup the Cowboys should win, and can be one of the biggest factors in them winning a much needed football game on Sunday.
