Newcastle United could be on the verge of sanctioning a sale of yet another midfielder.
The Magpies have received interest from a Turkish club in another first-team player as Newcastle continues to retool its squad ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
With Joe Willock entering the final year of his contract at St. James’ Park, a late-Tuesday report suggests a move abroad is becoming an increasingly realistic possibility before the transfer window closes.
According to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, Turkish
side Besiktas is in talks to sign the 26-year-old midfielder after Newcastle decided against offering him a new contract.
“Turkish club Besiktas are trying to sign Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock,” Edwards reported on X. “Is in the final year of his contract and clubs are talking about a fee. #NUFC not going to offer him a new deal so a move this summer makes sense.”
Chronicle Live later confirmed that Besiktas has identified Willock as a transfer target after finishing fourth in the Turkish Super Lig last season and strengthening its squad with the signing of former Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard.
The report also states that Willock’s preference is to remain at Newcastle and fight for his place, although the Magpies are expected to consider offers given his contract situation.
“The former Arsenal youngster’s preference is to stay at St James’ Park and fight for his place but with just one year left on his current deal, Newcastle have to consider all bids for squad players seriously,” the report says.
Willock reminded supporters of his desire to stay on Tyneside following the end of last season, and the midfielder strengthened his case for more playing time by scoring and winning a penalty in Newcastle’s 3-0 preseason victory over Darlington.
While no transfer figures have been reported, Willock is valued at €14 million on Transfermarkt, with his valuation having decreased steadily for the past three years, when it reached a €30 million peak back in June 2023, about two years since he joined Newcastle for approximately that fee.
