The Chicago Bears have held training camp at Halas Hall for a few years now, and this will be the second year in a row I failed to get any tickets. It’s a bummer because even though it’s just a football practice, there’s something neat about watching your favorite team in that setting.
My first camp was during the Jon Fox era, back when the Bears held it at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois. I’m not sure what finally motivated me to make the two-hour drive down after so many years of having no interest, but once I experienced it, I regretted not going sooner.
I was into photography back then, and I took a ton of pictures that I shared here and on social media. The social media aspect of camp is huge, and while I never shared any videos (even though I was accused of it!), firing off Tweets about what’s happening is great for engagement.
I got to meet some of my Windy City Gridiron colleagues in person for the first time at camp, and I also met several other fans and Bears media personalities there.
In those Bourbonnais days, there was no cap on how many fans could attend, but since the switch to Halas Hall, there’s a limited number of free tickets available, and they go fast!
