The Seattle Seahawks have a huge home game lined up Sunday night, when they take on the visiting Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 action in primetime on Sunday Night Football.
Earlier Friday it was reported that the team had released former All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs, and the assumption of most was that Diggs would be replaced on the roster by right guard Anthony Bradford. Bradford had been designated for return earlier int he week, and the line has struggled in his absence, but bringing Bradford back to
the active roster was not the move the team opted to make.
Instead, the Seahawks have promoted special teamer Irv Charles from the practice squad to the 53 man roster, and then immediately signing the recently released Diggs to the practice squad.
For those curious why the team would make these moves, the most likely explanation has to do with the injury report. There are three Seahawks listed as Out and five more who are carrying a Questionable designations into the matchup against the Chiefs. That means the team was likely looking at needing more players from the practice squad than they could call up with the collective bargaining agreement limiting the number of elevations per game to two. This swap creates the ability for the Seahawks to effectively have three practice squad players on the active roster for the game against Kansas City, and since Diggs is a veteran who is not required to clear waivers, it’s simply a matter of paperwork and then likely giving Diggs the day off on Sunday.
