The Royals have placed pitcher Kyle Wright on outright waivers, according to New York Post reporter Jon Heyman. If no team claims him, he can be outrighted to the minors, although if he has five years
of service time he can refuse assignment. Wright has not pitched in a big league game in the last two years.
The Royals acquired Wright from the Braves for pitcher Jackson Kowar after the 2023 season. The Royals knew he would be unavailable for the entire 2024 season following Tommy John surgery, but were hoping he could bounce back in 2025 and show some of the form that allowed him to win 21 games with the Braves in 2022. But Wright suffered a hamstring strain in spring training, and continued to be plagued with shoulder issues over the summer. He made eight minor league starts for the Royals, but never appeared in a big league game for them.
The Royals also activated Kris Bubic, Alec Marsh, and James McArthur from the 60-day Injured List and have 36 players on the 40-man roster. Marsh had labrum surgery last month and is likely to miss most, if not all of the 2026 season.
