Nicolas Jackson has not made any of Chelsea’s matchday squads in preseason, nor did he make the cut for Sunday’s season-opening scoreless draw against Crystal Palace, and though he’s not officially in the “Bomb Squad”, he’s also not really in the first-team squad. He’s a bit of squadless, as it were, seemingly waiting for some opportunity to present itself in the transfer market.
Time’s running out however, with less than two weeks until deadline day.
But we’ve got some movement today, not only thanks
Alexander Isak dropping a bomb about broken promises at Newcastle (so if he goes, perhaps they will go for Jackson), but also thanks to a report from The Telegraph claiming that Aston Villa are “exploring the viability of a move” for the 24-year-old striker.
That’s a fancy way of saying that Villa are broke and don’t have the money for Jackson (£60m-plus), but are hoping that we’ll be desperate enough to settle for a loan. Villa could cover Jackson’s wages, and apparently manager Unai Emery’s a “big fan” from their (brief) time together at Villarreal.
Surely for Chelsea, this would be a last resort, so we’ll be hoping that Isak situation reaches its inevitable Liverpudlian conclusion, and then Newcastle can pay up for Nico.
