With a much-improved roster, Cleveland Browns fans are excited about what the future holds. The solid foundation of the 2025 NFL draft class
gave way to the upside of premium positions added in this year’s college selection process. Browns fans also got two receivers near the top of the draft, for the first time ever. The problem, as someone within the organization texted me this morning, is that the quarterback position is hard to ignore (“elephant in the room” in Berea).
Everyone knows what the QB
competition looks like right now. According to a report, Deshaun Watson has the edge over Shedeur Sanders, while Dillon Gabriel will stick around despite the hyper athletic Taylen Green being added in the 2026 NFL draft. Each quarterback has people who believe in them, even if Gabriel’s is now the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. They also have their detractors, with no certainty about their futures.
Trying to be realistic about the upside of each quarterback, at least as of May of 2026, which of the following outcomes would surprise you the most:
- Deshaun Watson revives his career to be at least a Top 20-level quarterback
- Shedeur Sanders develops enough in his second season to keep the Browns from drafting a quarterback in the 2027 NFL draft
- Dillon Gabriel becomes a spot starter and quality backup
- Taylen Green starts more than 10 games at quarterback in his career
Optimistically, it is possible that all four of those outcomes are possible, even if not in Cleveland. The Browns could go from needing an answer at quarterback to having multiple options. Pessimistically, none could be the answer and Cleveland is desperate for an option in next year’s draft.
You tell us, which of the four options do you think is most likely? Which would surprise you the most?
