Tuesday marked the start of Phase 3 of the offseason program for the Kansas City Chiefs. While media were not present for the first of six scheduled on field organized team activity practices (OTAs), the team did release a video of quarterback Patrick Mahomes on the field.
Mahomes is coming off of a torn ACL and LCL suffered in December. Questions on his availability to start the 2026 season have loomed over the Chiefs this spring.
Signs continue to point to Mahomes
being on the field when Kansas City hosts the Denver Broncos on the September 14 season debut of “Monday Night Football.”
ESPN’s Nate Taylor confirmed that Tuesday marked Mahomes’ first on-field action with teammates since suffering the injury.
“Today is the first day that Patrick Mahomes is back on a football field with his teammates,” Taylor reported, “and he did participate in some form and fashion, I was told today, during the Chiefs’ opening OTA practice. This has been one of the more important dates of the Chiefs’ offseason with Patrick Mahomes obviously recovering and rehabbing from his torn ACL and LCL in his left knee.”
Although OTA practices are voluntary, Taylor notes other key players including tight end Travis Kelce, running back Kenneth Walker, and defensive tackle Chris Jones, were present on Tuesday.
Expect more news about Mahomes’ status on Thursday, when credentialed media will be permitted to view Kansas City’s third offseason practice.
