Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović offered some words of support for teammate and mentor Leon Goretzka. While Pavlović is growing into his role for club and country, the veteran Goretzka — who once was in the same shoes — has a contract that is up at the end of the season, and it is looking likelier and likelier that he will not be getting an extension.
“Leon supported me when I joined the first team. I spoke to him a lot and he gave me tips. He’s always been there for me and I’m grateful
to him. He’s a great footballer and person,” Pavlović said ahead of this week’s Champions League match against PSV (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “As for everything else, it’s the decision of the club and Leon himself. I can’t say much about that.”
Goretzka’s path looks like it has run its course at FC Bayern. But the club has found a worthy successor from its own academy in Pavlović.
