Where We Be and What We Be Drinking is BAACCCKKKK!!!!! And unlike Texas, we’re back for realz. Your overworked “writers” needed the newb to pick up the slack and I am here for it. So, welcome back to our weekly
recurring (cough cough) Where We Be, What We Be Drinking column, where we pull back the curtain and find out what the OTE “writers” do gameday. It’s definitely not actually watching games.
Let’s get to it because we’re heading into the home stretch. Some teams are already bowl eligible, but others still have work to do. Perhaps your team? And hey, we know you’re not reading this.
BoilerUp89: I’ll be in Cincinnati. No idea what I’ll be doing or drinking yet. What time is our game? Let’s say Makers Mark (I think I have some left) while ignoring my limited responsibilities.
Purdue at Michigan is at 6 pm GTZ on BTN.
misdreavus79: Speaking of drinking problems, I’ll be at home probably drinking water and watching my team get its teeth kicked in.
BuffKomodo: Cincinnati. Basement bar. Need to refill the kegs so actually not sure. I’ll find out Saturday.
BRT: (central Nebraska) Glacial Till Cider. Yardwork and garage work catch up day until Nebraska gets stomped at night.
He was a high school QB: I’ll be preparing for Illinutgers with a Mill Stream Schild Brau in southern Minnesota.
Brian: Los Angeles.
After attending four games in four weeks (in three cities and three stadiums), I’ll be sitting this one out. Getting a jump on Michigan’s bye week, you could say.
As far as drink? Michigan kicking off at night (or in the late afternoon on the west coast) seems to call for a cocktail.
thumpasaurus: Champaign Illinois at HISTORIC MEMORIAL STADIUM for ILLINUTGERS X.
The drink? Why what else but NUTGERBOMBS!
Shot of skrewball peanut butter whiskey,
drop it into a glass of red ale.
FUCKIN NUTS!
I am too old to be living this way and this will be the last time I do a game as though I’m a student or 20something.
AlmaOtter: Thump, peanut butter whiskey? That ain’t right.
I’ll be in lovely northern Virginia. Mom’s coming to visit and her track record of visits and Illini games is damn near unimpeachable (expect for my wedding day and the Purdue loss in 2023, she’s 4-0.) Illini in Illinutgers by a million.
Also, probably drinking some local Oktoberfest? Maybe some two hearted? Depends on the moment.
MNWildcat: My basement in scenic, legendary, historic suburban Twin Cities, drinking water or Summit Diet Cola (thanks, Aldi!) as I index the rest of this goddamn book. Thank goodness for bye week.
If I’m good, if the kids cooperate, and if the wife is finally feeling better, there’s also a beer in my future. I was very pleased to pick up a six-pack of Third Space Brewing (Milwaukee) Happy Place Midwest IPA. Very much looking forward to that.
HoustonBoiler: I will be on the couch in Northeastern New Jersey. Since the Purdue game is at night, Mrs. HB and I will be drinking wine, as we normally do on a Saturday night. The specific varietal is TBD though we have plenty of cabs, pinots, red blends, and various other reds and white to choose from. And, bubbles are always an option!
During the day, I will be doing yard and garage work. Specifically, it’s time to start putting away the patio furniture, grill, etc. which will also involve a garage reorganization. I will also get back to spreading mulch over the beds, and we have a lot of beds. I mean a LOT of beds. Several weeks back, I ordered 450 bags of mulch, basically that is six full shipping pallets. So far, I have spread 120 of those bags.
So now you know about our plans. Please enlighten us about where you’ll be and what you’ll be drinking in the comments below! And hey, we know you did not read this.
