The only player on the Contemporary Baseball Era Player Ballot to be elected to the Hall was Jeff Kent. He’s the second-to-last guy I would have picked. I would rank him above Clements on my list. Well,
likely Mattingly too. But any of the other five would have seemed better picks to me.
The Committee 16 members, 14 of them voted for Kent. Delgado got 9 votes (12 were needed). Murphy and Mattingly got 6 votes. The others had less than 5.
I really wanted Carlos to make it. I think he is very deserving.
Our polls would have put Dale Murphy and Gary Sheffield in the Hall, both better picks than Kent.
- Dale Murphy: 84.3%.
- Gary Sheffield: 79.4%
- Barry Bonds: 73.6%.
- Carlos Delgado: 72.5%.
- Jeff Kent: 66.3%.
- Don Mattingly: 64.9%
- Roger Clemens: 60.0%.
- Fernando Valenzuela: 51.3%
Congratulations, Jeff. If you go in with a Blue Jays cap, I’ll take back all my complaining.
