According to a report from Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau, Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala is out for the team’s Champions League showdown with Atalanta on Wednesday, but it does not end there for the attacking midfielder.
Per Hau, Musiala is also questionable to face Union Berlin on Saturday:
Patience and caution are still required with Jamal Musiala. He will not be available for the return leg against Atalanta and is also questionable for the clash with Union on Saturday.
BFW Commentary
Bayern Munich’s handling of injured
players this season has left a lot to be desired. Just a few weeks ago, Musiala was being pushed as ready to take the next step to being a starter, even though his performances did not show a player, who looked ready to take on that type of role or even a bigger workload.
To be clear, Musiala probably should not look like he did before the injury yet — and it is possible that he might not ever look that way again. To have a chance to get back to that form, though, Musiala does need patience, likely some rest, and most definitely a slower track with his return.
The question has to be asked why Musiala returned so early this season when he has not looked close to 100% since his coming back. Was it a disservice to allow him to come back so early? It is a fair question to ask.
Musiala, though, has not been alone with early returns. Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Itō, Konrad Laimer, and Manuel Neuer have also returned early (too early?) from injuries this season and suffered setbacks. Something seems to be amiss with how Bayern Munich assesses its players readiness for respective returns to action. Hopefully, a more conservative approach takes hold soon.
