Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs stormed past the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals), 5-3. It was Iowa’s eighth-straight win.
Jaxon Wiggins started this
game in his Iowa debut. He gave up a solo home run to Harold Castro in the first inning and faced a bases-loaded, two-out situation later in the second, but ended the inning with a strikeout. Wiggins’ final line was one run on two hits over three innings. He struck out four, walked one and hit one batter.
Wiggins threw 46 pitches, 29 of which were fastballs. They averaged 97.4 miles per hour.
Eli Morgan pitched a scoreless fourth inning in a rehab assignment and was awarded the win because Wiggins didn’t go five. He allowed on hit. Morgan struck out two and walked no one.
Nate Pearson retired the side in order in the ninth and got the save. He struck out two.
Shortstop Dixon Machado was 2 for 4 with a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning. Machado also scored one run.
Catcher Carlos Pérez went 2 for 4 with a double and one run scored.

Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies blasted the Rocket City Trash Pandas (Angels), 11-3.
Erian Rodriguez started and picked up the win after giving up two runs on six hits over five innings. He walked three and struck out four.
Chase Watkins had three scoreless innings of relief. He allowed just two hits. Watkins struck out five and walked no one.
Left fiedler Andy Garriola hit a two-run home run in the second inning. It was his tenth home run this year and second with Knoxville. Garriola went 3 for 5 with three total RBI.
DH Jordan Nwogu hit two doubles in a 3 for 5 game. Nwogu drove in three runs and scored three runs.
Reivaj Garcia was 2 for 4 with a walk and one run batted in.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs got scared off by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers), 6-4.
Koen Moreno threw the first three innings and gave up one run on three hits. He walked three and struck out four.
Moreno was relieved by Cole Reynolds, who took the loss after getting battered for four runs on three hits over 2.1 innings. Reynolds walked two and struck out two.
Third baseman Reginald Preciado hit a solo home run in the eighth inning, his third of the year. Preciado finished the evening going 3 for 4 with a double and the home run. He scored twice and had two runs batted in.
Right fielder Edgar Alvarez was 2 for 3 with a walk and a two-run double in the third inning.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans captured the Columbia Fireflies (Royals), 10-5.
Starter Ethan Flanagan pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. He struck out two and walked no one.
Brayden Spears came on to pitch the top of the sixth and got the win when The Birds scored eight runs in the bottom of the inning. Spears’ final line was three innings of no runs and three hits. He struck out five and walked no one.
Second baseman Ty Southisene hit a three-run triple in that eight-run sixth inning. Southisene went 2 for 5 and scored twice.
Right fielder Alexey Lumpuy had a two-run triple in the sixth. He was 1 for 4 with a walk and a stolen base.
Center fielder Kane Kepley was a perfect 2 for 2 with two walks and a stolen base. Kepley scored twice and had one run batted in.
DH Cole Mathis went 1 for 3 with an RBI double, a walk and a run scored in his first official game since May 13.
