Rob Van Dam can always be counted on for sharing a hot take, as he recently proved on his podcast when discussing a difference he’s noticed between the atmospheres in WWE and AEW.
During the episode released on Tuesday (October 20) of the 1 of a Kind with RVD show, the WWE Hall of Famerfirst praised Tony Khan’s promotion by saying “they’ve definitely proven themselves.”
“You know, it was so easy when they first came out to be like, ‘Yeah, well, let’s see how long they stick around.’ And I don’t think
there’s anything wrong with any of us that felt that way, because promotions over the years come up all the time…Those guys really fill the void, and so it’s cool. Congrats to AEW, and they’re just going to keep growing.“
RVD then shared a big difference between the promotions, saying he feels AEW comes off as being a place where the wrestlers “are kind of running the show more.”
He continued: “Whereas WWE was like a lot of people afraid for their job and doing whatever they’re told, and sometimes afraid to go against it or say the wrong thing or whatever. And this [AEW] seems more like guys that want to be out there expressing themselves with their talent and doing it their way.”
The ECW legend went on to say to his co-host Dominic DeAngelo that if he were to appear again in AEW, he believes he could have a “really good run” with one of his peers like Jericho, Christian, or Adam Copeland.
What do you think of RVD’s comments? Does it seem like AEW gives their talent more freedom than WWE? Let us know in the comments.
