While curses and cold streaks seem to plague other programs in Lexington (ahem, football), the Kentucky Volleyball team is operating on a different plane entirely. Craig Skinner’s Wildcats aren’t just winning; they are on an all-time heater, dominating opponents with a consistency rarely seen.
13 straight and counting
The Cats extended their impressive winning streak to 13 consecutive matches on Sunday, sweeping Alabama (3-0) on the road in Tuscaloosa. This run includes statement victories over elite competition like No.
5 Penn State (3-0 sweep), No. 3 Louisville (3-2 road win), No. 9 Texas A&M (3-1 road win), and a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Florida.
Dominance by the numbers
It’s not just the wins; it’s how they’re winning. Kentucky has displayed remarkable dominance throughout this streak and the season overall. In 60 total sets played this season, the Wildcats have lost only 14. That incredible ratio highlights their ability to control matches and close out opponents efficiently. After early-season losses to No. 1 Nebraska and No. 7 Pittsburgh, Kentucky has been nearly flawless.
Projected top seed with huge implications
Their sustained excellence hasn’t gone unnoticed. The NCAA Volleyball selection committee recently revealed its current top seeds, and Kentucky was named one of the four projected No. 1 seeds for the upcoming tournament. This is crucial because the top four national seeds earn the right to host every tournament match, up until the Final Four, in their home arena. Memorial Coliseum could become a fortress for the Wildcats on their path to a potential national championship.
Cheer on the Cats this weekend
Kentucky returns home for two pivotal matches this weekend. First, they host Vanderbilt on Halloween night (Friday, 7 PM ET). Then comes a potential SEC and national seeding showdown against No. 2 Texas on Sunday.
So, after the trick-or-treating is done, head over to Memorial Coliseum. Forget the football frustrations for a night and cheer on a team doing truly special things. This Kentucky Volleyball squad isn’t just winning; they’re putting the nation on notice.
