Danny White has announced Tennessee pitching coach Frank Anderson will serve as the interim coach for the baseball program. Tony Vitello opted to take the manager job of the San Fransisco Giants in a truly
unprecedented move on Wednesday afternoon.
Anderson was the head coach at Oklahoma State from 2004-2012.
White chose Anderson over Josh Elander, who had been serving as Vitello’s assistant head coach. White noted that Elander would be a candidate for the full time job. Several former players have voiced their support for Elander to land the full time job.
White will now conduct a national search for a head baseball coach. It’s October — a very strange timeline to hire a baseball coach. Tennessee has a loaded roster with another top recruiting class coming in. The Volunteers have invested a ton into facilities, now armed with a fully renovated Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Not to mention Tennessee is just 18 months removed from a National Championship.
Danny White has a big moment here — will he hire his own guy or keep things going with someone like Josh Elander? First feel? Sounds like he’s going to hire his own guy….
More to come.
