Bayern Munich kicked off the Bundesliga season with a 5-1 rout over Stuttgart. Ballon d’Or favorite Harry Kane did not record a goal or assist as he dropped deep in the buildup and both of his shots were blocked. Luis Díaz waited until the final whistle to score his goal. That obviously left it up to Dayot Upamecano and Aleksandar Pavlović to provide the finishing touches.
In the postgame interview (via @iMiaSanMia), Pavlović broke down the opponent and his late goal.
“We gave everything from start
to finish,” said Pavlović. “Stuttgart often fade a bit in the second half and don’t have as much energy left. That was the case again today. We kept going, didn’t give up, and scored our goals. Of course, it’s a fantastic feeling to be able to celebrate with the fans again after such a long time. As for my goal, I made a run, Isi [Saibari] spotted me and made a great assist. I’m very happy about my goal.”
Pavlović’s goal was his first goal for Bayern since February and Upamecano had not scored since November. Bayern’s selfless approach continues to pay dividends in the final third. In addition, new signing Ismael Saibari came off the bench to provide two assists and show that he belongs on the squad.
