The Spurs have only played two games so far this year, a rout of the Mavericks who couldn’t handle Wembanyama’s mastery on either end of the court, and were blown out by 33 points on their home court. The Pelicans presented a more difficult challenge to the Spurs, who grinded out a win in overtime in the Smoothie Center after Victor fouled out early in the OT period. It wasn’t as pretty as the first win, but it showed the Spurs’ determination and ability to win even when the team isn’t having their best night shooting or holding onto the ball.
They finally return home this afternoon for an early game against the winless Brooklyn Nets, and the Spurs have a history of starting slow in games that are played early in the day. Hopefully, Coach Mitch will have the team dialed in and ready to play, because this is a good chance for the Spurs to get their first 3-0 start for the season since the 2019-2020 season, which seems like something that the characters in a sci-fi drama would refer to as “the before times.” This season feels like the good times are back again, and a win today would help to keep this feeling going. Let’s cheer on the team and watch that happen.
